Each Life That Touches Ours For Good

I was laying next to the fireplace (a favorite, and most coveted spot in the house) and so I was looking up at my mantel. Immediately the hymn, “Each Life That Touches Ours For Good” came to mind. I’ll show you why.

Here is a beautiful plant my friend Cherish gave me before she moved to Alaska. I was assigned as Cherish’s visiting teacher. Consistent visits helped us get to know one another and of course, shortly after we became good friends, she decided to move. Story of my life! She also gave me a maple tree I planted in my front yard. Next to the plant is Thanksgiving decor that my mom in law gave me, in fact all the decor on the mantel are from my mom in law. I have had them forever. She has tried to teach me how to tole paint as beautifully as she does, but she has a real talent, and I can paint like preschoolers and that’s good enough for me.

Here is a Pottery Barn clock that my friend Esther gave me for my birthday the year after she moved away. I guess she knew I was missing her. She has the same one in her kitchen. So she sent me one to remind me she is always there? Not the same though. The candle holder next to the clock was made at Enrichment. Few women from our ward ever attend enrichment, in fact, it’s the STP (same ten people) most times I don’t feel like getting my bum off the couch and going, but I always do, and most of the time I am glad I went and associated with the women. One such lady is the lady who painstakingly sawed these logs so I could have a beautiful candle holder on my mantel. Her name is Tiffany, and her efforts are noticed and appreciated, if not by everyone, at least by me.

These little candle holders, I remember earning for FREE because a bunch of my friends came to a party I was having to support me. I recall one of those friends was Leslie. Another friend who moved away, but was instrumental in making my years on Whidbey some of the very best. Really good memories! And there is that cute turkey my mom in law painted, I love that turkey!

I have a lot to be thankful for this season. In the Spirit of Thanksgiving, I am grateful to my Heavenly Father who loves me enough to give me the gospel of Jesus Christ in this life so that I was able to meet such great women who have touched my life for good and have left their beautiful footprints on my heart. The great thing about the gospel is that even if all your friends do move away, you know that eventually, you will get to associate with them again. Besides, you always make new ones who are just as special!
